Information Packages On Hiv/Aids For Polytechnic And College Students

Pahang FPA have been actively implementing HIV/AIDS awareness activities as part of our on-going educational programme under the Family Life Education Project. We had two successful activities related HIV/AIDS in year 2002. One activity was a seminar on “Peranan Belia Dalam Pencegahan HIV/AIDS” which was held in POLISAS Kuantan (polytechnic college). We found that there were many students/ youths who were ignorant and misinformed about certain facts on HIV/AIDS.

With increasing incidence of HIV/AIDS, Pahang FPA needs to play a bigger role and strengthen our involvement in HIV/AIDS education and prevention. From previous experience and evaluation, we found that it was very difficult to encourage young working adults (especially factory workers) to attend HIV/AIDS seminar. Pahang FPA feels that education to this group should be targeted whilst they were still in schools or institutions of higher learning. Therefore for year 2003, Pahang FPA would like to extend the previous seminar to another five colleges around Pahang reaching two hundred students from each college or polytechnic.

The main objectives of the one-day seminar are:
  • To continue educating and equipping our youths with the knowledge and essential skills to inculcate healthy lifestyles.
  • To give them chance to undertake voluntary blood test in order to know their current status of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), so that they will be more motivated to practice healthy lifestyle and keep away from HIV and other STDs.
The Seminars will be held from February - September 2003 and will consist of talks followed by workshop sessions. It is hope that by knowing the facts on HIV/AIDS, these young participants will be motivated to practice healthy lifestyle and in turn, motivate their peers to likewise.

In conjunction with International AIDS Memorial Day (IAMD), Pahang FPA with funding from Malaysian AIDS Council is organising a workshop on "Role of Working Youths in Prevention of HIV/AIDS" on 24 May 2003 where 50 school leavers and working youth will be given education and skills in the prevention of HIV/AIDS. The theme for this year's IAMD is "Remember the Cause, Renewing our Commitment".
