In-School Rham Programmes

Nowadays risky sexual behaviours are increasing amongst adolescents and this has caused a great concern to everyone. In order to reduce risky behaviours and promote responsible living amongst adolescents, Sabah Family Planning Association has planned for several in-school talks in 2003 to the secondary students at SMK Menggatal, SMK Perempuan Likas, SM Teknik Likas, SM Shan Tao, Maktab Sabah, SMK Bahang and SM Stella Maris. Using the FFPAM Reproductive Health of Adolescent Module (RHAM) as a guide, topics on "Understanding My Body", "Reproductive Rights and Responsibilities", "Boy-girl Relationship" and "Teenage Pregnancy" are conducted for the benefits of the students.

The students were given the information and skills which focused on the risks and consequences of teenage pregnancy and on cultivating healthy boy-girl relationship which is essential during the growing-up years. Besides that, they were also provided with information regarding their rights and responsibilities in relation to sexual and reproductive health.

All the students enjoyed the interactive sessions and they shared a lot of ideas during the participatory activity. They could thoroughly comprehend all information through the group work related to sexual and reproductive health. Students find these talks useful as they receive information, education and life skills which can help them to protect themselves against social ills.
